BEGINNER GUIDE
Meccha Chameleon Beginner Guide
A paint hide-and-seek party game where the real skill is disappearing into the room. Here's how the loop works and what to do in your first hour.
The core loop
You and a group of 2–10 (or more) players split into Hiders and Seekers. Hiders begin as blank white figures. During a short prep phase, they paint their bodies to mimic the stage — colors, pose, and painting skill decide who survives. When the timer starts, seekers hunt everyone down. If even one hider lasts until the buzzer, the hiders win; seekers win by finding everyone first.
Painting is the whole game
Hiders don't just pick a corner — they become part of the scenery:
- Sample and paint. Pick up the environment's colors and brush them onto your body. Match light and dark areas, not just a flat fill.
- Strike a pose. Crouch, lean, or flatten against a surface so your silhouette stops reading as "person."
- Pick your surface first. Decide what you're mimicking before you start painting; a good backing beats a good brush.
- Stay still. Once locked in, movement gives you away. Wiggling is the fastest way to get caught.
- Optional taunts. You can whistle to bait seekers — but it reveals your position.
Game modes
- Normal (classic hide-and-seek). Hiders paint and hide; seekers find everyone before time runs out. Best for learning the disguise rhythm.
- Increasing Oni (Infection). Tagged hiders turn into seekers, so the hunt snowballs toward the last survivor. Great for medium groups of 5–7.
- Double Mode. Everyone hides first, then everyone becomes a seeker — it's a race to find the most. Play with an even split for a fair round.
Matchmaking & lobbies
There's no built-in friends list yet. To play with friends, host a room, set a name and password, and have everyone search for it manually in the server browser (region must match, and everyone needs the same game version). Leave a room public and anyone can join. Steam Family Sharing lets a household share one library copy.
Beginner tips
- Start small (2–4) to learn painting and seeking before joining packed public lobbies.
- Match light and shadow, not just the base color — flat fills look "off" under stage lighting.
- Use your pose to break your human outline; corners and furniture edges hide silhouette gaps.
- Rotate roles so everyone plays both hider and seeker.
- Use voice chat — the game is funnier when people react live to awful disguises.
Before you start
Make sure your machine meets the bar — see the System Requirements page. Then grab a few friends and try to vanish.
